Author's Biography
David Macinnis Gill is the award-winning author of SOUL ENCHILADA, BLACK HOLE SUN, INVISIBLE SUN, SHADOW ON THE SUN, RISING SUN, and UNCANNY from HarperCollins/Greenwillow. His short story “Praise the Lord and Pass the Little Debbies” appears in the multi-honored RURAL VOICES from Candlewick Press. He also had two unannounced novels forthcoming in 2023 and 2024.
I write stories for teens because those are the readers who most need to see themselves in books.
David’s books have been named ALA Best Book for Young Adults, a Kirkus Best Book, a Bank Street College Best Books of the Year, and an NYPL Stuff for the Teen Age as well as nominated for a variety of state and regional lists and awards. His short stories have appeared in several magazines and anthologies. He holds a doctorate in education from the University of Tennessee and was the President of ALAN (The Assembly on Literature for Adolescents) and an Associate Professor at the University of North Carolina at Wilmington. He is on the faculty of the Vermont College of Fine Arts MFA in Writing for Children and Young Adults program.
